How to take Zyban

Take Zyban exactly as directed by your doctor. DO NOT take more Zyban than what's prescribed to you. The normal recommended dose for Zyban is one 150 mg tablet in the morning for the first three days. On the fourth day, begin taking one 150 mg tablet in the morning and one 150 mg tablet in the evening. Doses should be taken at least 8 hours apart. Swallow Zyban tablets whole. Do not chew, crush or divide them.

Zyban precautions

Zyban may cause dizziness or sleepiness in some patients. Use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery. Do not smoke if you are using the nicotine patch or any other nicotine product along with Zyban. Otherwise you may consume too much nicotine and experience serious side effects. While you are taking Zyban limit your alcohol consumption. People who drink a lot of alcohol and then suddenly stop increase their chances of experiencing seizures. Do not take Zyban if you:

• Are taking Wellbutrin (bupropion HCl) Tablets
• Are taking any other medicines that contain bupropion HCl
• Have or have had a seizure disorder
• Have or have had an eating disorder
• Are abruptly discontinuing the use of alcohol or sedatives,
• Are currently taking or have recently taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
• Are allergic to bupropion HCl
• Are pregnant or nursing

What to tell your doctor

Using Zyban with nicotine patches can raise your blood pressure. If you suffer from high blood pressure discuss with your doctor about using Zyban in conjunction with other smoking cessations. Also, be sure to tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems. Depending on the severity of your condition, your doctor may need to adjust your dose. Zyban is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Women should notify their healthcare professional if they become pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking Zyban.

Zyban side effects

If you experience an allergic reaction, seizure, or irregular heartbeat while taking Zyban stop treatment and seek medical attention immediately. The most common side effects of Zyban are dry mouth and insomnia. Other common but less serious side effects of Zyban include:

• Tremors, restlessness, agitation or anxiety
• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Sweating
• Skin rash
• Ringing in ears
• Flu-like symptoms
• Frequent urination
• Headache
• Weight loss or gain
